Community Traffic Safety Program

The four Community Traffic Safety Program offices are located throughout the state and support the Division’s Highway Traffic Safety programming. The staff of these offices work to engage with local law enforcement agencies in their respective regions to implement traffic enforcement efforts in these areas as well as education and awareness related to traffic safety.

These agencies receive awards to provide traffic enforcement efforts that are in addition to the regularly scheduled patrols that take place. These programs include the NHTSA funded Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP), the Impaired Driving Program, as well as the national “Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over” impaired driving campaign and “Click It or Ticket” occupant restraint program. The goal of these programs is to reduce the number of fatal and serious injury crashes that occur in Alabama.

These programs identify current needs based on recent trends and activities as they relate to reducing crashes overall, as well as reducing serious and fatal injuries when crashes do occur.
