Interstate Water Issues

Overview

ADECA’s Office of Water Resources is designated as the primary state agency monitoring interstate issues that impact state waters.

In this role, OWR has been involved in supporting Alabama’s interests in the interstate conflicts involving the Alabama-Coosa-Tallapoosa and Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint river basins, known as the “Water Wars,” since the creation of the office.

OWR provides technical support to the governor’s office and state’s legal team in the ongoing litigation discussions that will result in how these interstate water resources will be shared.
