Governor awards grant for drug court program in Dallas County

MONTGOMERY— Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $50,000 grant to support a community program in Dallas County that focuses on drug treatment for those recovering from addiction.

The grant to the Dallas County Commission will help the Dallas County Adult Drug Court program to offer a means for participants to recover from addiction and avoid continuing trouble in the criminal justice system. The program provides comprehensive treatment services with incentives and sanctions, frequent random drug testing and aftercare to help participants end their addictions to illegal drugs and alcohol.

“This program gives participants an opportunity to address their drug addictions and avoid the serious consequences that continuing their addictions will cause,” Gov. Ivey said. “I commend the Dallas County Commission for offering this program to help participants reclaim and rebuild their lives.”

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, infrastructure upgrades, recreation, energy conservation and water resources management.

“ADECA stands with Gov. Ivey in support of this program that helps participants become free of addiction and lead more productive lives,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.
