Gov. Ivey awards grants to support five agencies that assist abuse victims

MONTGOMERY – Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded grants totaling $79,200 to five agencies that provide services to help victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

“These funds will support organizations that offer critical assistance to victims in their time of greatest need,” Gov Ivey said. “I commend the staff members of each of these agencies for providing a safe haven and helping victims rebuild their lives.”

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering these grants from funds provided by the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The following agencies have received grants:

Family Counseling Center of Mobile Inc. — $55,000 to support counseling, prevention and advocacy programs for children, adults and families dealing with a variety of domestic issues in Mobile County.

The House of Ruth Inc. — $1,600 for services including a shelter and a 24-hour crisis line available to victims in Barbour, Bullock, Coffee, Covington, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston and Pike counties.

Tuscaloosa SAFE Center Inc. — $10,000 to provide professional assistance to victims of sexual violence in Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale Lamar, Marengo, Pickens, Sumter and Tuscaloosa counties.

SAN (Turning Point) — $10,000 to serve victims of domestic violence and their children in Bibb, Fayette, Hale, Lamar, Pickens and Tuscaloosa counties.

Penelope House Inc. — $2,600 to offer comprehensive services to victims of family violence in Choctaw, Clarke, Mobile and Washington counties.

ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, victim programs, economic development, water resource management, energy conservation and recreation.
