MONTGOMERY — Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $604,685 grant to ensure victims of sexual violence receive adequate and timely care.
The Alabama Coalition Against Rape Inc. will use funds for continued training, advocacy and education to prevent sexual violence and to assist victims.
“The Alabama Coalition Against Rape has for years been an advocate for victims in their safe recovery, as well as a training resource for law enforcement and medical personnel who are called to assist them,” Gov. Ivey said. “I commend the Coalition for their efforts to provide timely, professional assistance so victims can seek justice against their offenders and return to normal lives.”
The Montgomery-based group works with numerous agencies throughout the state to provide training for medical and law enforcement professionals on assisting sexual assault cases and helping victims. The organization is also an advocate to guide victims through legal processes and ensure that offenders are prosecuted.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice.
“ADECA joins Gov. Ivey in her understanding that victims need medical and mental care and compassion when faced with this type of situation,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.
ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, victim programs, economic development, water resource management, energy conservation and recreation.
