Gov. Ivey awards grant to help Eva industry expand and create new jobs

MONTGOMERY— Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $100,000 grant to provide infrastructure necessary for an Eva business to expand and provide new jobs.

The Community Development Block Grant to provide sewer services in the Eva Industrial Park will enable J & J Fiber Contracting to expand its fiber installation business. The company plans to add a new building and employ 10 additional people. The company currently has 20 employees.

The expansion of the town’s sewer system will also make it possible for other businesses in the industrial park to connect to the service and will serve as a needed incentive for future businesses to locate in the area.

“I am pleased to award these funds which make possible the extension of a much-needed sewer line to the Eva Industrial Park which will in turn bring a new business and jobs to the area,” Gov. Ivey said. “This investment will also have long-term benefits for local economic development.”

The CDBG project will involve the installation of 1,100 feet of low-pressure sewer line along with three individual pump stations to serve the businesses in the industrial park, which includes the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs’ Surplus Property Division’s north Alabama warehouse.

ADECA is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

“ADECA is pleased to join Gov. Ivey in this project that is helping an up-and-coming industry expand and provide a great service through installing the fiber cable that helps expand high-speed internet service in unserved areas of Alabama,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.

Gov. Ivey notified Mayor Gary Livingston that the grant had been approved.

ADECA administers an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management and recreation development.
