Gov. Ivey awards grants for new law enforcement vehicles in Millport, Pickens County

MONTGOMERY – Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded $100,000 in grants to replace patrol vehicles for law enforcement agencies in the town of Millport and Pickens County.

“Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line to protect and serve, and they need and deserve the proper equipment to keep our communities safe,” Gov. Ivey said. “I am pleased to award these grants that will provide reliable transportation for police officers in Millport and sheriff’s deputies in Pickens County.”

The town of Millport and the Pickens County Commission received $50,000 each to purchase the new vehicles. Millport will use the funds to purchase a new vehicle to replace one that has been experiencing mechanical issues. The Pickens County Commission will purchase a new patrol vehicle to replace one that has been driven for about 180,000 miles.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice.

“These grants will keep these necessary purchases from impacting local budgets,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “ADECA joins Gov. Ivey in support of programs to assist law enforcement agencies.”

ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, victim programs, economic development, water resource management, energy conservation and recreation.
