Programs

Child Passenger Safety Training

Education and coordination of child safety seat clinics throughout Alabama are performed by Child Passenger Safety Coordinators throughout the state. These training classes are available to the public who are interested in becoming first time technicians and serve as opportunities for re-certification and renewals for trained technicians. Fitting stations throughout a majority of the state are available to the public. The technicians will ensure the child passenger restraints are installed correctly. Please see the Alabama Public Health website for more information on station locations and training opportunities.

Car Seat Voucher Program

Starting in October 2024, ADPH will provide car seats and booster seats to caregivers who receive citations for not having car seats for their children or improperly using child restraints. This program is only available for tickets received in Calhoun, Montgomery, and St. Clair counties. You qualify for the program even if you live in another county.

Caregivers have 30 days after receiving a citation to request an appointment with ADPH. Once ADPH receives the request, the caregiver will be enrolled in a self-paced Car Seats Basics course. This course must be completed for the caregiver to receive a car seat or booster seat.

To schedule your appointment, please email the following information to childsafetyvoucher@adph.state.al.us:

  • Name
  • Phone Number
  • The county where the citation was issued (must be Calhoun, Montgomery, or St. Clair)
  • Citation Number (must be verified at appointment)
  • Age, height, and weight of the child

Or call 334-206-3359 and leave a voice mail message if someone does not answer.

Heatstroke Prevention Education Program

Children’s of Alabama, through its Health Education and Safety Center, works to educate parents, caregivers and the public about the dangers of leaving children in hot vehicles and how to avoid pediatric vehicle-related heatstroke. The Vehicle-Related Heatstroke Prevention Project will amplify these efforts by providing parents and caregivers with education and resources for avoiding vehicle-related heatstroke in children and conducting a public awareness campaign to reach the general public.
