Outdoor Recreation Planning

What is the Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP)?

Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF)

To be eligible to receive federal funds through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) State Assistance Grant Program, each state must produce a SCORP every five years. The intent of the SCORP is to identify outdoor recreation issues and help guide planning and development of outdoor recreation in Alabama. The development of the SCORP also provides an opportunity to assess the supply and demand of outdoor recreation opportunities statewide and determine the best methods for Alabama to make investments in the future of outdoor recreation.

Recreational Trails Program

Recreational Trails Program legislation, 23 U.S.C. 206, requires funds apportioned to states to be obligated for recreational trails and related projects that have been planned and developed under the laws, policies, and administrative procedures of the State and that are identified in, or further a specific goal of, a recreational trail plan, or a Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP). You can find recreational trail planning information to include an update of the Alabama State Trail Plan of 2008 in Chapter 6 of the SCORP.
