MONTGOMERY – Gov. Kay Ivey has announced a grant totaling $115,179 to the Mobile County Commission to create a task force to combat gun violence and gang activity in Prichard.
The funds from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods program will support a project by the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office to take on major crime and emergency operations in the city.
“This initiative will strengthen public safety in Prichard and help secure convictions in criminal cases,” Gov. Ivey said. “I commend the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office for its dedication to serve communities and keep residents safe.”
Project Safe Neighborhoods grants are administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice at the discretion of the United States Attorney’s offices of Alabama’s Northern, Middle and Southern Districts.
“ADECA joins with Gov. Ivey in supporting law enforcement in their efforts to reduce crime and create a safer community for residents to call home,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.
ADECA manages a range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, recreation, energy conservation and water resource management.
