MONTGOMERY – Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded three grants worth a total of nearly $145,000 to assist victims and prosecute cases of sexual assault.
“Victims of this terrible crime deserve timely and compassionate care from well-trained professionals,” Gov. Ivey said. “These funds will boost efforts to investigate and prosecute cases and provide victims with the support and resources they need as they take steps to recover and rebuild their lives.”
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants with funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice.
“ADECA joins Gov. Ivey in support of these programs that provide comfort and advocacy for victims and help bring offenders to justice,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.
Below are the grant recipients.
Mobile County Commission – $32,710 for the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office, which investigates and prosecutes all sexual assault cases and supports victims in Mobile County.
Alabama Coalition Against Rape – $80,000 for this Montgomery-based organization to train advocates, medical personnel and other first responders and to provide direct services to victims of sexual assault, child abuse, human trafficking, stalking and harassment throughout the state.
One Place Family Justice Center – $32,110 for a 24-hour hotline, case management and other services for victims of sexual assault and other crimes in Autauga, Butler, Crenshaw, Dallas, Elmore, Lowndes, Montgomery, Perry and Wilcox counties.
ADECA manages a range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, recreation, energy conservation and water resource management.
