Gov. Ivey awards grants to five south Alabama groups that assist child abuse victims

MONTGOMERY – Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded five grants totaling $486,723 to organizations that serve victims of child abuse in south Alabama.

“Children who have been abused or neglected deserve timely, compassionate assistance from caring professionals,” Gov. Ivey said. “I am pleased to support these organizations and commend them for their commitment to protecting children.”

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants with funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice.

“These grants will fund programs that communities count on to assist children who have been victimized,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “ADECA joins Gov. Ivey in support of these organizations and their staffers who help children find healing and justice.”

Below are the agencies receiving grants.

CARE House Inc. – $85,363 to provide a range of services to victims of crimes including child abuse or neglect, child sexual abuse and child pornography in Baldwin County.

Escambia County Regional Child Advocacy Center – $49,383 for a program providing personal advocacy, emotional support and other assistance to victims of crimes including child abuse and domestic violence in Conecuh, Escambia and Monroe counties.

Exchange Center for Child Abuse Prevention – $129,809 to assist victims of crimes including child abuse, adult physical assault and human trafficking in Barbour, Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston and Pike counties.

Covington County Child Advocacy Center – $67,020 for services including assistance with navigating the criminal and civil justice systems and filing compensation claims for victims of child abuse and related crimes in Covington County.

Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center – $155,148 to assist victims of crimes including child abuse, kidnapping and stalking in Dale Geneva, Henry and Houston counties.

ADECA manages a range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, recreation, energy conservation and water resource management.
