MONTGOMERY — Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded $880,577 to help reduce sexual assault in Alabama while providing assistance to victims.
The funds will help the Alabama Coalition Against Rape assist regional agencies in providing services to sexual assault victims while also conducting educational programs aimed at reducing sexual assault and related crimes statewide.
“When someone becomes a victim of sexual assault they need to know they are not alone, and places with well-trained staff are there to assist them through their ordeal,” Gov. Kay Ivey said. “The Alabama Coalition Against Rape has been at the forefront of directing regional assistance agencies to reach out to victims and let them know help is available. These funds will help the coalition continue its important work.”
Established in the mid-1990s, the Alabama Coalition Against Rape provides training, advocacy, support and resources for survivors, families and agencies or organizations.
The award was made available to the state through the U.S. Department of Justice. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant.
“ADECA joins Gov. Ivey in supporting this effort to assist victims and help them mend their lives,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.
ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, victim programs, economic development, water resource management, energy conservation and recreation.
