MONTGOMERY— Gov. Ivey has awarded a $250,000 grant to bring jobs and commerce to Tallapoosa County.
The Community Development Block Grant will be used to provide the infrastructure to pave the way for the construction of an Ace Hardware store on Alabama Highway 49 near StillWaters Resort on Lake Martin. The business will employ 11 people.
“This development will provide convenience for people living on the east side of Lake Martin and in the immediate surrounding area while also creating commerce and jobs in Tallapoosa County,” Gov. Ivey said. “I am pleased to award these funds.”
Funds will be used to improve access to the ACE Hardware store from Highway 49 by adding turn lanes. Drainage improvements will also be made along the road. The hardware store will be built on 7.4 acres on the west side of Highway 49 just to the south of Tallapoosa County Road 34.
The 12,241-square-foot Ace Hardware store is expected to open in the summer of 2026 and will carry home and garden supplies, building materials as well as automotive, RV and marine supplies.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs administers the CDBG program in Alabama.
“As with most development projects along major highways, significant improvements are needed to ensure traffic safety,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “ADECA is pleased to join Gov. Ivey in supporting this project.”
Gov. Ivey notified George Carleton Jr., chairman of the Tallapoosa County Commission, that the grant had been approved. Tallapoosa County is providing $50,000 for the project.
ADECA administers a wide range of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management and recreation development.
