Gov. Ivey announces grant to expand health care services in New Site

MONTGOMERY — Gov. Kay Ivey has announced a $220,383 grant to help the town of New Site expand its health clinic resulting in additional medical services for residents.

The grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission will help fund a 757-square-foot addition to the medical center which was opened in 2021 and serves people living in that area of Tallapoosa County.

“Since its opening, the New Site medical facility has provided quality medical services to more than 1,140 patients each month,” Gov. Ivey said. “I am pleased to support this expansion, which will further improve patient care while helping to reduce wait times.”

The expansion, expected to be completed by November 2026, will include an additional exam room, an X-ray area and office space. Town officials said the improvement will result in a more convenient, in-house diagnostic service, reducing the need to travel elsewhere for the service.

An earlier ARC grant was used to build the original medical center which includes a pharmacy and exam area.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the ARC award.

“This expansion will provide added service and convenience for people living in north Tallapoosa County,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “ADECA joins Gov. Ivey in commending local officials for meeting the needs of people in their community.”

Gov. Ivey notified Mayor Phil Blasingame that the award had been granted. The town has pledged $220,383 for the project.

ARC is an economic development agency of the federal government and 13 state governments. The agency’s mission is to innovate, partner, and invest to build community capacity and strengthen economic growth in Appalachia to help the region achieve socioeconomic parity with the nation. Thirty-seven Alabama counties, including Tallapoosa County, are part of the ARC region and eligible for funds.

ADECA manages a range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, recreation, energy conservation and water resource management.
