MONTGOMERY – Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded $1.27 million to eight agencies that provide professional care and assistance to victims of child abuse in 20 Alabama counties.
“Children are our most precious resource, and it is crucial we ensure those who have been victimized receive support and help with healing,” Gov. Ivey said. “I commend these organizations for providing timely and professional assistance to children during such a difficult time.”
The organizations receiving grants provide a wide variety of services to victims of child abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, child pornography and bullying. That assistance includes personal advocacy, information and referrals, emotional support, safety services and help filing compensation claims. The organizations also serve children of homicide victims and those who have been victimized in teen dating situations.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants with funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice.
“These grants will help ensure children who are victims of abuse and other mistreatment have somewhere to turn for compassionate care,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “ADECA joins Gov. Ivey in support of these organizations that offer resources and expertise to help child victims recover.”
