Gov. Ivey awards $200,000 to help two companies expand in Lineville

MONTGOMERY— A $200,000 grant awarded by Gov. Kay Ivey will pave the way for economic advancements in the city of Lineville and help create jobs.

The Community Development Block Grant will be used to upgrade two city streets making it more feasible for two local companies to expand and together create 23 jobs.

Integrity Cabinets, the city’s largest private employer, and Cheaha Tie & Timber, a fast-growing company in the timber industry, both plan expansions. Both businesses rely heavily on truck transportation.

“These industrial expansions are wonderful news for the city of Lineville and Clay County, and their impact will also positively affect the timber industry throughout east-central Alabama,” Gov. Ivey said. “I am pleased to award this grant to support these expansions and the new jobs that these industries will bring.”

Street improvements will be made on Industrial Boulevard and College Street, both of which are access roads to the two industries. The two streets are deteriorated and in need of major improvements to handle the traffic volume from the two industries.

Integrity Cabinets, which employs 300 people, is a family owned and operated business that has produced custom cabinets the past 20 years. Cheaha Tie & Timber is a 10-year-old company that moved to Lineville five years ago. The company primarily produces railroad ties and wood byproducts.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

“I commend local leaders for working together to help make expansions possible for Integrity Cabinets and Cheaha Tie & Timber,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “ADECA joins Gov. Ivey in supporting the upgrades to these streets to handle more trucks as these businesses expand and add employees.”

Gov. Ivey notified Lineville Mayor Roy Adamson that the grant had been approved. The city has pledged $40,000 in local funding for the project.

ADECA administers an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management and recreation development.
