MONTGOMERY – Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded just over $875,000 to an agency that helps ensure rape victims receive care throughout the state of Alabama.
The Alabama Coalition Against Rape will use the grant to support its 15 member agencies and provide training and technical assistance to first responders in rape and sexual assault cases.
“This grant will allow the Coalition to continue offering timely, professional and caring assistance to rape victims statewide,” Gov. Ivey said. “I am pleased to support this group in its mission to help victims heal and seek justice.”
The Coalition provides direct services including a 24-hour hotline and referrals. It also supports member agencies that provide crisis intervention, counseling and advocacy for victims at the local level as they navigate medical, criminal justice and social support systems.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice.
“The Alabama Coalition Against Rape supports not only victims but also law enforcement, medical professionals and others who assist with rape and sexual assault cases,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “ADECA joins Gov. Ivey in commending the coalition for providing essential services.”
ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, victim programs, economic development, water resource management, energy conservation and recreation.
