The purpose of the Family Violence Grants is to assist states in establishing, maintaining and expanding programs and projects to prevent family violence. Family Violence Grants are available through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, Law Enforcement Planning Section.
Objective:
The primary objective of the Family Violence Grants is to assist states in their efforts to prevent family violence and provide immediate shelter and related assistance for victims of family violence and their dependents; and to carry out coordination, research, training, technical assistance, documentation and evaluation activities.
Eligible Applicants:
(a) Local public agency.
(b) Nonprofit private organizations including:
(1) religious and charitable organizations
(2) voluntary associations, dedicated to the prevention of Family Violence.
Eligible Activities:
Activities to assist states in their efforts to prevent family violence and provide immediate shelter and related assistance for victims of family violence are eligible. Goals and Objectives as contained in the grant application must be achieved in a 12 month period.
Timing:
Application for Family Violence Grant may be filed any time during the year, but the timing of funding decisions will depend on the availability of funds.
Requirements:
The following requirements apply to Family Violence Prevention and Services Act:
No funds shall be used as direct payment to any victim or dependent of family violence.
Subgrants will meet the following matching requirements: not less than 20 percent of the total funds provided for a project under the FVPSA with respect to an existing program, and with respect to an entity intending to operate a new program under this title, not less than 35%. The local share will be cash and will not include any Federal funds provided under any authority other than the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act.

Compliance Requirements:
Family Violence Grants are subject to all state and federal laws and the requirements required in ADECA Subgrantee Administrative Manual (SAM).
