The Information Services Section provides information technology assistance to the various ADECA divisions. This is accomplished by providing design, development, deployment, and training for hardware, software, and telecommunications related issues. The Information Services Section is divided into three technical units.
The Operations Support Unit is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and control of the department’s IBM AS/400 midrange computer. This system provides support to primary areas such as fiscal management, personnel, job training and inventory control. The AS/400 system has been upgraded to a Model 500 RISC processor that nearly doubles the processor capability and provides over three times the disk capacity of the previous platform. It also allows the Information Services Section to take advantage of RAID and Mirroring technology to further protect the integrity and security of the data and applications stored on the AS/400.
The Programming Development and Support Unit develops and supports programming applications for many of the federal and state programs of ADECA. Application projects developed by the unit include:
- LETS Financial & Grant system
- ADECA Contract management system
- JTPA Participant Tracking system
- Purchase Order Database system
- Customer Survey/Questionnaire system
- ADECA/DIR Linkage system
- Legislative Notification system
- Audit System migration
The PC, LAN and Training Support Unit is responsible for the planning and deployment of hardware and software to support desktop and network computing, and for training ADECA personnel in the use of these systems. The unit has successfully completed projects to improve the infrastructure of the ADECA network, to convert the ADECA network from a bridge based to a switch based network, and to connect the ADECA network to the State Campus Ring Network by a router. A Computer Resource Center operated by the unit provides training on the use of departmental standard software, and for specialized demonstrations.
