ADECA is providing this information as part of educational outreach efforts to help managers of apartments and rental housing units and prospective renters to understand the basic provisions of the Fair Housing Act (Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968). Discriminatory actions can run the gamut from gently steering a prospective renter away from certain areas of a complex to blatantly refusing to show a vacant apartment to an individual or family of a race or national origin that is different from others in the complex.
Fair Housing Posters
ADECA’s Community and Economic Development Division has developed a new fair housing poster for Alabama apartment complexes to help housing providers comply with Fair Housing requirements. The posters protect owners and managers by reminding them of the law, and they help tenants by advising them of their rights.
